SEO for Beginners: My Personal Journey & Key Takeaways
How I Started Learning SEO from Scratch
SEO always seemed like some tech wizardry that only experts could master. I thought you needed expensive courses and paid tools to learn it. But one day, I decided to prove myself wrong.
Instead of waiting for the “perfect time,” I jumped in—starting with my uncle’s astrology website to practice SEO. No fancy strategies, just trial and error!
(P.S. If you’re curious about how I first got into digital marketing, check out my previous blog: https://bit.ly/4iks8JK)
Step 1: Understanding SEO (Without Overcomplicating It)
I began by asking the basics:
- What is SEO?
- How does Google rank websites?
- Why do keywords matter?
To find answers, I read Moz’s SEO guide, watched Neil Patel’s YouTube videos, and explored Ahrefs blogs—learning that SEO isn’t just about ranking but about providing value.
Step 2: Practicing SEO on a Real Website
Theory wasn’t enough, so I built my uncle’s website and tested everything:
✔ Optimizing meta titles & descriptions.
✔ Improving website speed & mobile-friendliness.
✔improving SEO score and fixing errors
This hands-on practice made SEO feel real instead of just theory. The results were not ground breaking but it gave me enough experience

Step 3: Starting My Blog to Learn GA4 & GSC
After my uncle’s website, I wanted to track my own SEO results. That’s why I started this blog—not just to write, but to experiment with GA4 and GSC.
Now, I’m learning how to:
- Analyze organic traffic using Google Analytics 4.
- Optimize content based on search queries in GSC.
- Experiment with on-page SEO to rank better.
Step 4: Exploring Free SEO Tools
Since I wasn’t using paid tools, I relied on free ones like:
- Google Search Console – to check search visibility.
- GA4 – to track visitor behavior.
- Uber suggest – for keyword research.
- Yoast SEO – to optimize blog posts.
These tools gave me insights into how Google sees websites and what works in SEO.
Step 5: Learning Technical SEO (Without Freaking Out)
At first, Technical SEO scared me. But I realized small tweaks make a big difference:
✔ Fixing broken links.
✔ Making my site mobile-friendly.
✔ Understanding Core Web Vitals (site speed, UX).
Each fix improved my skill, showing me that SEO is more than just keywords.
What I Learned About SEO
- SEO isn’t magic—it’s about valuable content & user experience.
- Google rewards websites that provide relevant, well-structured content.
- Patience is key! SEO takes time, but results are worth it.
Final Thoughts
I didn’t take a course or buy fancy tools—I just started practicing. Now, my blog helps me track SEO results in real time, and I’m excited to see how far I can go!
