LEARNING DIGITAL MARKETING AS A BEGINNER
How I Started Learning Digital Marketing as a Beginner
If someone had told me a year ago that I'd be learning digital marketing, I would have laughed and kept scrolling. I had no background in marketing, no business to run, and no idea where to start. But here I am, documenting my journey—one filled with excitement, confusion, and a whole lot of trial and error! 😅
Why I Started Learning Digital Marketing
Like many fresh graduates, I felt lost. I had a degree but no clear direction. I wanted a career that was creative, flexible, and full of opportunities. That’s when I stumbled upon digital marketing for beginners. It seemed like the perfect mix of creativity and strategy. But there was one problem: I had zero experience in online marketing.
At first, I thought digital marketing was just about posting on social media. But as I dived deeper, I realized it was a whole new world—SEO (Search Engine Optimization), Google Ads, content marketing, social media marketing, and analytics—it felt overwhelming. So, I decided to take it step by step.
How I Started Learning Digital Marketing for Free
Since I couldn’t afford expensive courses, I relied on free digital marketing resources to learn. Here’s what helped me the most:
✅ YouTube Digital Marketing Tutorials – I watched guides on SEO for beginners, social media marketing strategies, and Google Ads setup. Some tutorials made me feel like a pro... until I actually tried doing it myself! 😂
✅ Google Digital Garage Free Course – This structured course gave me a solid foundation in online marketing strategies.
✅ Marketing Blogs & Twitter Experts – I followed digital marketers, read case studies, and learned how businesses implement digital marketing.
The Challenges I Faced While Learning Digital Marketing
Learning online is great, but let’s be real—it’s not as easy as it looks. I faced a lot of struggles, including:
- Information overload – Every guru had a different strategy. Should I start with SEO, Google Ads, or content marketing? I was stuck.
- No real business to practice on – I wanted to run Facebook and Google Ads, but I had no budget.
- SEO felt confusing – Keywords, backlinks, meta descriptions... I didn’t know where to begin.
How I Practiced Digital Marketing Without a Real Business
Since I had no clients, I got creative. I decided to help my uncle with his business’s Instagram page and website. This gave me hands-on experience with SEO , social media marketing strategies—content creation, engagement techniques, and testing different ad formats. It wasn’t a paid project, but it was real experience. The results were not groundbreaking as he never had an online presence.
Then i got another idea of creating a blog to document my learning journey and practice SEO techniques more and especially Google Search Console, and GA4 (Google Analytics 4). (Still figuring them out though! 😬)
What’s Next?
I’m just getting started, and there’s still so much to learn. In my upcoming posts , I’ll share how I practiced SEO without a real business, how I built an astrology website just for practice, and how I tested different SEO strategies to rank content, how i optimized his Instagram page. Stay tuned! 😉
